Bringing light into people's lives

Imagine what it is like to lose your sight. To gradually lose the definition of people's faces, colours, steps on the pavement...to steadily enter a world of greyness and no light.

But for millions of people around the world who were born with eye diseases that make them go blind, there is now real hope.

Although hereditary retinal diseases have been untreatable until now, recent dramatic progress in research means that cures will be found. Our aim is to accelerate finding cures for retinal diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa by supporting locally based and international initiatives. For some forms of eye disease a cure will be found within 10 years.

Foresight
About Foresight
  • Foresight is a U.A.E.-based non-profit organisation and a branch of Tamkeen.
  • We are dedicated to improving the lives of people who are blind and visually impaired and are leading the way to create a Centre of Excellence in the U.A.E. lobbying for better support and raised awareness of the issues faced by people who are blind and visually impaired.
  • We have a unique opportunity to drive international and locally based research, which will make an invaluable contribution to international initiatives in finding cures for retinal disease.

The auction of this falcon will help our work considerably. Some of our recent achievements include:

  • Funding 2 research projects both at the cutting edge in their field, each taking the next step towards finding a cure for Retinitis Pigmentosa that makes people lose their sight. Foresight is an associate member of Retina International - the combined efforts of the patient-led members contribute over millions of US$ towards research each year bringing a cure nearer.
  • Holding our first interest group for people with hereditary eye disease - reaching out with support and advice for sufferers and their families of all backgrounds.
  • Starting to produce a range of up to date information both printed and electronic in English and Arabic for people who have been diagnosed with hereditary eye disease. This has been done in consultation with leading experts here and abroad.
  • Bringing an expert to conduct the first white stick training in the UAE helping to give greater confidence and independence to people with visual impairment.
  • Working closely with health professionals and government bodies such as Takamul to ensure that the needs of all people who are visually impaired in the U.A.E. are met.
